The press service of the Regional Traffic Safety Department in Surkhandarya has reported that a criminal case has been initiated against individuals who caused bodily harm to traffic police officers while they were performing their official duties.
According to the department, on August 9, in the Angor district, 39-year-old T.U., driving a Damas, sharply changed direction upon seeing traffic police officers. The officers followed the car to the driver's home in the 'Ilgor' neighborhood.
When the driver got out of the car, he attempted to flee. The officers stopped him and, smelling alcohol, intended to take him for a medical examination. However, the driver's younger brothers, his wife, and a neighbor actively resisted the officers and caused them bodily harm.
A criminal case has been opened against these individuals under Part 2 of Article 219 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (Resistance to a representative of authority or a person performing a civic duty).
Additionally, the regional police department will conduct an internal review of the traffic police officers' actions.
