Earlier reports from Namangan detailed an incident where a man inappropriately touched the thigh of an 18-year-old female passenger on a bus. The young woman responded by striking the man, and initially, both parties were fined by the court.

However, the appellate instance of the Namangan Regional Court has now reviewed the administrative case against the 18-year-old, who had been held liable for causing minor bodily harm. The court determined that her actions were taken in a state of necessary self-defense.

Consequently, the first-instance court's decision regarding the young woman was overturned, and the administrative proceedings against her were dismissed. This ruling is seen as a significant affirmation of the right to self-defense in such situations.

Simultaneously, the appellate court reviewed the decision concerning the male offender. It concluded that the initial punishment was excessively lenient and failed to adequately account for the public danger of his misconduct.

As a result, the relevant part of the first-instance decision against the man was annulled, and a stricter penalty was imposed. This development highlights the judiciary's commitment to balancing justice and protecting victims' rights in Uzbekistan.
