In the Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan, a 32-year-old woman has been sentenced to 13 years and four months in prison for the murder of her two young sons. According to the court, the woman strangled the children after a conflict with her husband and then attempted to take her own life.
The tragedy occurred on the night of February 1, 2023, in a rented apartment in the Gulistan district. A man returning home found his sons, aged six and four, dead. The gas burners in the apartment were left open.
A forensic examination determined that the children died from mechanical asphyxia. The investigation revealed that the woman had quarreled with her husband and decided to take revenge. She strangled both sons one by one, laid their bodies side by side, opened the gas burners, and left a suicide note for her husband. She then attempted to kill herself but was rescued.
The Shirin City Criminal Court found the woman guilty of intentional murder of two minors. Applying Article 57 of the Criminal Code, she was sentenced to 13 years and four months in a general-regime colony.
Earlier, in the Khatyrchi district of the Navoi region, a court sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for the murder of his five-month-old child, with the father found guilty of intentional murder with extreme cruelty.
