The NeMolchi.uz (“Don't Stay Silent”) project in Uzbekistan has announced the opening of applications for the #NeUyat26 exhibition dedicated to combating violence against women and girls.
Organizers emphasize that the exhibition's name serves as a core message to every woman and girl who has experienced violence, aiming to convey the idea: “This is not shameful!”.
“We are looking for works that highlight themes of overcoming violence, dealing with shame and pain, achieving inner freedom, and recovery. We invite women artists, illustrators, photographers, installation authors, and researchers of contemporary art practices. If it is important for you to speak through art about personal, social, and taboo topics — this space is for you,” the call for applications states.
It is noted that NeUyat is a space for safe communication, mutual support, and rethinking experiences that have long remained invisible.
“This year, the exhibition will become part of a larger movement. The project will travel across five regions of Uzbekistan: starting from Nukus and across the country to the Fergana Valley,” organizers say.
To participate, women artists, illustrators, photographers, installation authors, and researchers of contemporary art practices over 18 years old (no upper age limit) working in Uzbekistan are invited.
Those interested can submit an application electronically until August 30 (link).
Selection results will be announced on September 2, and the deadline for submitting finished works is set for October 1.
The exhibition itself, implemented with the support of the Swiss Embassy in Uzbekistan, will run from October 4 to December 27, 2026.
