Tashkent, Uzbekistan – AN Podrobno.uz. As the flu and acute respiratory viral infections season approaches, residents of Uzbekistan are advised to take preventive measures in advance. Specialists recommend following simple protective measures and getting vaccinated against the flu before the seasonal rise in morbidity begins.

Doctor of Medical Sciences, virologist Dildora Sekler reminded that vaccination remains the only means of specific prevention of influenza. According to her, it is advisable to get vaccinated in September or October, using the vaccine intended for the current epidemiological season.

Vaccination can be administered to healthy adults, children from six months of age, the elderly, and pregnant women. The specialist emphasized that the vaccine protects against the influenza virus and the strains it was developed for, but does not prevent infection with other viruses that cause acute respiratory viral infections.

Among non-specific preventive measures, Sekler mentioned a balanced diet, outdoor walks, adequate sleep, regular ventilation, and humidification of rooms. During the seasonal rise in morbidity, it is also recommended to limit visits to crowded places whenever possible.

If there is already a sick person in the family, measures should be taken to reduce the risk of infection for others. In particular, it is recommended to use masks, wash hands regularly, and treat surfaces that family members frequently touch.

When symptoms of the disease appear, the virologist advises consulting a doctor. She also noted that there are drugs that directly affect the influenza virus, but their use should be determined based on the specific situation.

The specialist separately warned against the self-administration of some immunomodulatory drugs and interferon inducers for the prevention of respiratory infections.

Sekler stressed that timely seeking of medical help is important for any course of the disease, as complications can develop both with influenza and other viral infections.
