After a current decline, Uzbekistan's birth rate is projected to rise again, with the number of newborns potentially exceeding 1.2 million per year by 2050, according to the 'Oila va Gender' Institute.

The institute forecasts 892,700 births in 2030, just over 1 million in 2040, and 1.23 million by 2050. However, current figures show a decrease: after a peak of 962,000 births in 2023, only 879,600 were registered in 2025.

For 2026, the institute expects around 800,000 newborns. The total fertility rate will also initially continue to decline before recovering, reaching 21.2 per mille in 2030, 20.8 in 2040, and 21.9 in 2050.

The highest rates are predicted in the Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions, at 24.7 and 23.8 per mille, respectively. The institute did not specify the factors that would drive this long-term increase.

Earlier reports indicated that nearly 880,000 newborns were registered in Uzbekistan in 2025.
