Citizens who worked abroad, returned to Uzbekistan, and have already started their own businesses can receive grants of up to 60 million soums to expand their businesses and create new jobs. This was reported by the Migration Agency.
The grant competition is being held in cooperation between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Migration Agency, with financial support from the Swedish Ministry of Justice. Citizens who worked abroad in 2025–2026 and returned to Uzbekistan can participate in the competition.
When selecting candidates for the grant, attention will be focused on a clear and well-founded business development idea, the potential to create new jobs, as well as the sustainability and efficiency of the existing business. In addition, the IOM and the Migration Agency are also holding a grant competition aimed at expanding small businesses for citizens who returned after working under the UK Seasonal Workers Scheme. Here, too, grants of up to 60 million soums can be obtained. Citizens who worked under the UK Seasonal Workers Scheme in 2024–2026 and returned to Uzbekistan can participate in the competition.
Candidates must be ready to invest their own funds in the business, as well as have the opportunity to personally participate in a one-day intensive training in Tashkent. All expenses related to the training are covered by the organizers. Candidates are required to have proven experience in running a business, that is, having run a business or startup. They are also required to have the potential to create new jobs, a long-term perspective of the business plan, and readiness to ensure its impact and sustainability.
In order to assess the impact of the grant program on improving the living conditions of participants, candidates must agree to cooperate with the IOM over the next 24 months. Recall that in June, Uzbekistan and Sweden signed their first intergovernmental agreement on migration and mobility. It provides for training specialists in medicine, engineering, services, and care sectors for the Swedish labor market, connecting with employers, and expanding academic exchange opportunities for students and researchers. A three-year pilot program on migration and mobility is being implemented with the participation of the International Organization for Migration. Within its framework, the needs of the Swedish labor market will be studied, and Swedish language and vocational training programs will be established.
