Specialists in Tashkent's Yunusabad district have launched an investigation into possible sources of air pollution following complaints from residents and elevated levels of fine particulate matter. The city's ecology department reported the move.

Overnight, staff from the department collected samples at the intersection of Yukori Karakamysh and Rikhsili streets. According to media reports citing data from Uzhydromet and IQAir, PM2.5 levels in that part of the district were about 2.5 times the norm, while PM10 was 3.5 times higher. Specialists are now working to identify the possible sources of pollution.

In recent days, Uzhydromet has also recorded exceedances of the permissible concentration of PM10 across Tashkent as a whole. For instance, on the evening of September 6, the figure stood at 82.7 micrograms per cubic meter, against a norm of 75 micrograms.

Earlier, specialists linked one of the deteriorations in Tashkent's air quality to a fire at a landfill near Angren. At that time, monitoring stations also recorded a rise in PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations.
