In Uzbekistan, the procedure for calculating alimony may be revised. This was announced by the Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women's Affairs, Dilnoza Kattakhonova, during a speech in the Senate. According to her, the issue of alimony has been actively discussed on social media recently. There have been cases where citizens, in order to reduce the amount of alimony, hide their real incomes and officially take jobs with minimum wages.

In this regard, in order to strengthen and ensure guarantees of child support, it is proposed to establish a minimum consumer basket for each child, taking into account their age category, and to determine the amount of alimony not based on the salary or income of the father or mother, but based on the cost of the consumer basket necessary for the child. This proposal aims to make alimony payments fair and transparent.

Furthermore, it is planned to introduce a legislative proposal for the gradual transfer of functions related to the alimony collection process from the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement to the private sector, taking into account the effective experience of other countries. Currently, alimony is collected by court from the monthly salary and/or other income of the parent in the following amounts: for 1 child – 1/4 of income, for 2 children – 1/3 of income, for 3 or more children – 1/2 of income.

At the same time, the amount of alimony collected per child cannot be less than 26.5% of the minimum wage. This minimum guarantee is intended to ensure the basic needs of children. The discussion in the Senate and the proposed measures are generating wide public interest, as the issue of alimony is relevant for many families.
