President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Duck-soo attended the opening of a joint business forum. The presidential press service reported that over 300 representatives of government bodies and business circles from both countries participated, including heads of leading financial institutions, major industrial enterprises, and trading companies.
From the Korean side, major companies such as Lotte Chemical, Hyundai Motor Group, Samsung C&T, CJ Group, Shinhan Financial Group, Hyundai Rotem, KIND, BOMI, Kia Corporation, Sampyo Group, and Hansae Mobility took part. The head of state emphasized that Korea is a time-tested friend and a special strategic partner of Uzbekistan. He noted that trade, economic, and investment cooperation is one of the priority areas of the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
It was noted that leading Korean companies are effectively operating in Uzbekistan and making a significant contribution to the country's economic development. It was also emphasized that Uzbekistan is entering a new stage of industrial and technological progress, which creates new opportunities for increasing mutual trade turnover, expanding investment cooperation, and implementing new joint projects.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed creating new economic growth points by combining Uzbekistan's resource potential, Korea's advanced technologies, and the investment capabilities of companies from both countries. The main directions for developing economic partnership were identified as industrial cooperation and the formation of full production chains, energy and the "green economy," transport and modern infrastructure, digitalization and artificial intelligence, semiconductors and microelectronics, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals.
The importance of strengthening cooperation in conducting joint scientific research, introducing advanced technologies, and training personnel was also emphasized. Korean companies were invited to implement projects in copper processing, production of electrical equipment, localization of components for the automotive and electric vehicle industry, robotics and automation, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, hydropower, energy storage systems, modernization of energy networks, and development of transport and urban infrastructure.
As a practical mechanism for further deepening industrial and technological cooperation, it was proposed to establish an Uzbekistan-Korea Industrial and Technological Alliance. The President expressed readiness to create more favorable conditions for Korean business activities in the country and to provide practical assistance in implementing joint projects.
Following the forum, a ceremony was held with the participation of the heads of both states to sign a substantial package of investment and trade-economic agreements. Also, with the participation of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a ceremony was held to launch and begin construction of joint projects with leading companies and financial institutions of the Republic of Korea.
In Tashkent, a Chemical Technology Center has started operating; in Jizzakh region, production of Kia Sonet Prime cars and car body panels has been launched; in Fergana region, production of electrical products; in Namangan region, production of polymer products. In Tashkent, construction has begun on the National Oncology Center, a medical higher education institution, and enterprises for the production of robots and their components.
