In Tashkent's regional rehabilitation and adaptation centers for women, legal assistance has been expanded for victims of violence, and exemptions from certain state fees for document restoration have been introduced. This was announced by the center's director, Mukhabbat Zakhidova.

According to Zakhidova, a victim can stay at the center with her minor children from one to six months. An individual program is developed for each woman: a psychologist, lawyer, and social worker work with her. Those without a job or profession are helped with employment and training, and children are placed in school or kindergarten.

"A woman is not always ready to seek help herself. Here the participation of third parties is very important. These could be neighbors or relatives. Someone must reach out. For years, a woman who is subjected to humiliation and violence lives in this environment. She needs to be brought out of it," she says.

Over the past year, the centers' capabilities have also expanded. Their staff have gained the right to represent victims' interests in court. A working woman may retain her job while at the center and is issued a temporary disability certificate. In addition, women have received a number of benefits for paying state fees and restoring documents.

Earlier it was reported that a criminal case was opened in Tashkent against a Greco-Roman wrestling coach after his wife filed a complaint about systematic domestic violence. The woman was issued a protection order.
