Border authorities in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan have reportedly intercepted a significant batch of undeclared goods at the Dustlik customs post. The illicit cargo, consisting of various bicycle and e-scooter components, was uncovered during a routine vehicle inspection. According to official statements, customs inspectors grew suspicious after noticing discrepancies between the physical cargo and the submitted paperwork. Specialists cross-referenced the shipping documents with electronic declarations, prompting a decision to redirect the incoming vehicles into the designated "red" inspection lane.
A thorough physical examination revealed a massive quantity of goods that had been deliberately omitted from the customs declarations. Specifically, authorities seized 23,000 bicycle tires and 2,200 lead-acid batteries intended for electric motor scooters, bypassing standard regulatory controls.
Preliminary estimates place the total value of the confiscated contraband at approximately 1.135 billion soums. All questionable merchandise has been seized and placed in temporary storage facilities while the ongoing investigation determines the next legal steps.
This enforcement action comes amid broader regional efforts to tighten border security, following previous announcements that Uzbek customs authorities plan to deploy unmanned aerial vehicles to better detect and deter smuggling operations along the border.
