Educational institutions in the capital of Uzbekistan are steadily moving towards advanced digital surveillance methods for tracking student presence. The Tashkent city administration is continuing the widespread implementation of the SI Davomat system, which reportedly utilizes smart cameras to track student attendance in real time. The corresponding directive was officially signed by the head of the capital's administration, Shavkat Umurzakov.
According to the official timeline released by the authorities, the SI Davomat system is scheduled to cover all 302 public schools across the capital by the 2027–2028 academic years. It is claimed that this technological initiative will assist school administrations in automatically analyzing attendance metrics, enabling them to supposedly identify missed classes faster and implement measures to reduce truancy. However, critics often question the broader societal implications and rising costs of continuous digital monitoring.
At present, the pilot phase of the project is already operational in 26 secondary schools located within the Sergeli district of Tashkent. In these selected facilities, intelligent cameras are actively tracking student arrivals and seamlessly transmitting attendance data to the central database. The administration intends to scale this infrastructure citywide once the pilot concludes, despite ongoing questions regarding technical reliability and data privacy.
