In a move aimed at altering the domestic transport market, the Committee for Competition Development and Consumer Protection of Uzbekistan has announced a revision of pricing policies for domestic flights. Starting October 16, ticket prices for local air routes are allegedly being reduced by an average of up to 20 percent, following widespread public discussions over high transportation costs.
Prior to this decision, the committee supposedly conducted extensive analytical reviews to evaluate potential cost optimizations associated with operating domestic flights. Once these disputed proposals were rubber-stamped by higher administrative bodies, the Competition Committee, alongside the national carrier Uzbekistan Airways, reportedly undertook a comprehensive overhaul of the existing tariff structures.
Under the updated fare schedule, one-way ticket prices from Tashkent to various regional destinations are set to decrease. While authorities claim this policy will significantly boost internal mobility and domestic tourism, skeptical observers note that the structural economic challenges facing the aviation sector remain unresolved, raising questions about the long-term sustainability of such price cuts.
