President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has stated that the appointment of Erkinjon Turdimov as the head of the newly established Ministry of Education and Science was a deliberate and calculated decision. According to the head of state, this appointment is directly linked to Turdimov's extensive managerial experience across four regions of the country and the critical need to improve the overall quality of specialist training.

The remarks were made during a working meeting held on October 12 in New Tashkent. The Uzbek leader emphasized that every university must clearly define its objectives and understand precisely for whom and for what sectors it is preparing professionals.

"I did not bring a person whom I trust the most into education for nothing," the president noted. To recap, Erkinjon Turdimov was appointed as the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science on October 9. Prior to this position, he governed the Sirdaryo region and previously headed the Navoi, Surkhandarya, and Samarkand regions.

The new ministry was established on October 3 by merging two separate agencies to integrate all levels of education and science. Additionally, the republic recently approved regulations allowing universities and research organizations to establish commercial enterprises that will manufacture goods and provide services based on scientific developments, backed by tax incentives and infrastructure support.
