Khusan Nigmatov, a former inspector at the Navoi customs post who was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison back in 2014, has successfully overturned his conviction. The judicial authorities have declared his dismissal illegal, ordering his reinstatement to an equivalent position along with substantial financial compensation.

Nigmatov served within the customs administration from May 2009 until February 2013. In November 2014, a regional court found him guilty of multiple offenses including bribery and official misconduct, handing down a lengthy prison sentence. He was dismissed from his post during the preliminary investigation, though he consistently maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal.

Following persistent appeals alongside his legal counsel, the Supreme Court's criminal cases judicial board officially overturned the 2014 conviction and 2016 appellate ruling on January 15, 2026, exonerating him completely. Consequently, Nigmatov was awarded substantial compensation, including roughly 591.7 million soums in unpaid wages and recovered state funds, alongside an additional 350 million soums for moral damages granted by a civil court.

Although the Customs Committee initially demurred and required a formal legal directive for his reinstatement in early 2026, the Uchtepa District Interdistrict Civil Court ruled entirely in Nigmatov's favor. The court nullified the original termination order and mandated that the period of his forced absence be fully credited toward his official employment record.
