Law enforcement agencies in Samarkand, including the State Security Service, customs, and internal affairs departments, have successfully intercepted an attempt to circulate counterfeit foreign currency. According to the official press service of the State Security Service, the joint operation led to the apprehension of multiple suspects involved in financial fraud.

Specifically, three residents of the Paynak district, aged between 23 and 30, were caught red-handed while attempting to sell fake 100-dollar banknotes to an undercover operative. The suspects planned to offload a total of 7,400 counterfeit US dollars in exchange for 44 million soums of legitimate national currency.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the detained individuals have prior criminal records. Furthermore, authorities established that the counterfeit banknotes were illicitly smuggled into the country from Turkey, highlighting transnational channels of financial crime.

A pre-investigation check is currently underway regarding the incident. Security agencies are working to identify and apprehend any other potential accomplices linked to this illegal enterprise.
