Specialists from 18 countries gathered in Tashkent for the third meeting of the MBIR International Research Center Advisory Council, hosted by the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences. The discussions focused on testing advanced reactor fuels, structural materials, and verifying computational models essential for the safety and design of future nuclear installations.
The MBIR fast-neutron research reactor, currently under construction in Dimitrovgrad, Russia, is projected to become the world's highest-flux research facility of its kind. Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency and various participating nations noted that the facility will facilitate critical irradiation tests, examine closed nuclear fuel cycle solutions, and support innovations in fourth-generation reactor systems. *
For Uzbekistan, integration with the MBIR project complements its domestic scientific infrastructure, including the upgraded VVR-SM research reactor and accelerator complex. Officials and researchers emphasize that this international cooperation strengthens technological capabilities, supports the country's emerging atomic energy program, and fosters high-level training for future nuclear specialists.
