President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has commenced his regional tour with a visit to the revered Imam Bukhari memorial complex, situated in the Payaryk district of the Samarkand region. According to the presidential press service, the trip aimed to review the implementation of previously issued directives concerning the efficient management of the complex and the expansion of its tourism capabilities.
During the inspection, the country's leadership was briefed on ongoing efforts to foster Islamic education and promote the scholarly legacy of Imam Bukhari on the international stage. Officials highlighted the continuous development of pilgrimage tourism as a key priority for the region's cultural strategy.
"Every time I visit the mausoleum of our great ancestor, I pray for the well-being of our people and for prosperity to grow in every family," Shavkat Mirziyoyev purportedly stated during his address. The President emphasized that authorities are committed to building comprehensive infrastructure to attract international travelers to both the Center of Islamic Civilization and the Imam Bukhari complex.
Extensive reconstruction of the site was officially finalized in March of this year, allowing the expanded complex to accommodate over 65,000 visitors daily. The newly integrated mosque is designed to hold up to 10,000 worshippers, while an advanced, technology-driven museum showcases rare historical artifacts detailing the heritage of Islam and the life of the renowned scholar.
