In an effort to reform the educational framework for the domestic light industry and design sector, authorities in Uzbekistan have issued a formal presidential decree establishing the Tashkent International Fashion Academy. The newly formed institution will operate as a state higher education facility under the jurisdiction of the Light Industry Development Agency.
The academy is set to be organized utilizing the foundation of an existing joint educational program between the Tashkent Textile and Light Industry Institute and the Paris International Fashion Academy. Officials have clarified that all current students enrolled in the preliminary joint program will seamlessly transition to continue their education within the newly established academy.
Academic operations are officially scheduled to commence starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, with student admissions conducted through standard legal procedures and regulatory frameworks. In addition to collaborative programs, the institution has been granted authorization to independently train undergraduate and graduate specialists using its own customized curricula.
Furthermore, a dual education system is slated for implementation beginning in the 2027/2028 academic year to facilitate targeted workforce training for textile, garment, and footwear enterprises based on specific industry demands. The academy will also handle state-commissioned apparel design projects and the development of national brand identities.
Infrastructure improvements are also integrated into the operational program, featuring plans to construct a 400-bed student dormitory via public-private partnerships by the end of 2028, while current students are permitted temporary access to existing institute facilities.
