During an inspection tour of the Samarkand region, the head of state reviewed the ongoing construction of a major bridge spanning the Karadarya River. According to officials, the infrastructure project is designed to streamline traffic flows, enhance road safety, and alleviate congestion by connecting the newly established Shirin residential district with central Samarkand and the international airport.
The project, valued at 310 billion soms, spans 780 meters in length, 29.8 meters in width, and stands 2 meters high. Featuring four traffic lanes, the bridge is engineered to handle up to 25,000 vehicles daily, significantly boosting the region's transport capacity and connectivity.
Upon commissioning, the new infrastructure is expected to shorten the travel distance from Shirin township to the city center from 23 kilometers down to 4 kilometers, while cutting travel time by 30 minutes. During the visit, the president was briefed on the technical specifications of the project and modern traffic management solutions.
The visit also included a meeting with local activists and public figures to discuss tourism growth and regional development. Noting a substantial surge in annual tourist arrivals to Samarkand, the leadership emphasized that rationalizing logistics and executing targeted projects are essential for improving public welfare and maintaining competitiveness in a rapidly changing world.
