President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reportedly commenced his working trip to the Samarkand region by visiting the Imam Bukhari memorial complex. During the visit, verses from the Quran were recited, and prayers were offered for the well-being of the population, a routine practice that highlights the official emphasis on traditional and spiritual values.
Throughout the tour, the country's leader was briefed on the implementation of various directives aimed at boosting the shrine's tourism potential, expanding Islamic education, and advancing pilgrimage tourism. The President allegedly emphasized that a deeper study of the thinker's scholarly heritage opens up new horizons, while authorities claim they are striving to create optimal conditions for international pilgrims.
The complex, which underwent extensive reconstruction at the behest of the leadership, has transformed into a prominent destination in the Islamic world. Official figures indicate that the daily capacity of the facility has surged from the previous 12,000 visitors to over 65,000. The redesigned architectural ensemble now features a mosque accommodating 10,000 people, a mausoleum, four 75-meter minarets, and an advanced digital museum dedicated to Islamic history.
Furthermore, to accommodate arriving guests, a comprehensive international-standard infrastructure has been established in the surrounding area, encompassing more than 20 modern hotels designed to support the projected influx of visitors.
