Uzbekistan intends to shift toward hybrid heat supply systems utilizing multiple energy sources and fuel types beginning in 2027, according to Ilhom Turayev, Chairman of the Board of the JSC 'Issiqlikta’minoti'. The announcement was made during a press briefing addressing preparedness amid potential natural gas supply disruptions.
During the conference, officials discussed alternative technological solutions and energy sources to maintain heating stability in the event of fuel shortages. Turayev stated that a long-term strategy for the heat supply sector is currently being formulated with the assistance of the World Bank and international consultants, evaluating several scenarios including electrification, hybrid methods, geothermal energy, and solar panels.
Furthermore, the ongoing transition from open to closed centralized heating systems was highlighted as a key reform mandated by presidential decree. Representatives explained that while current open systems severely limit regulation capabilities, closed loops with individual heating points will allow for more flexible consumer-driven management.
Authorities also reaffirmed that residents of multi-apartment buildings are strictly prohibited from unilaterally disconnecting from central heating systems to install individual boilers. The Ministry emphasized that such unauthorized modifications destabilize the shared infrastructure and cause heating failures for neighboring apartments.
