Local mayoral assistants in Uzbekistan will reportedly earn financial compensation for participating in the upcoming comprehensive business census. Under a Cabinet of Ministers decree issued on October 9, personnel will receive monetary rewards for every completed and accepted questionnaire regarding local enterprises, with higher rates assigned to unregistered entities to uncover shadow economic activity.

Funding for these incentive payments is allegedly provided through a project backed by the World Bank, while the National Statistics Committee will handle the direct transfer of funds. The bonus size is calculated relative to the minimum wage, granting 6,120 soms for officially registered businesses and a higher amount of 8,160 soms for enterprises operating without state registration, ostensibly to encourage more rigorous reporting. *

Officials noted that the accounting of self-employed citizens will not be financially compensated, as such individuals complete their surveys independently online. Furthermore, the reward will only be transferred after the full coverage of all economic units within a designated area is certified. The labor ministry supposedly assured that these additional census duties will not disrupt the primary responsibilities or salaries of the local assistants.

The nationwide business census is scheduled to take place from October 15 to November 30, 2026, targeting a broad spectrum of commercial entities. This extensive survey is purportedly driven by the pressing need to reduce the shadow economy, which reportedly accounts for 23 percent of the country's volume. Final statistics from the survey are scheduled for publication by September 1, 2027.
