Law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan and Turkey have carried out a joint operation in Istanbul, resulting in the apprehension of an Uzbek citizen who was reportedly wanted internationally. The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul released official statements confirming the arrest.
The detained individual is allegedly accused of committing a financial crime under Part 3 of Article 168 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which deals with large-scale fraud. The suspect had allegedly been evading local authorities for a considerable period before being tracked down abroad.
Following the successful apprehension, the suspect was transferred to the judicial authorities of Uzbekistan in accordance with established legal procedures to face further scrutiny regarding the pending charges.
Representatives from the diplomatic mission noted that the relevant agencies of both countries intend to maintain ongoing cooperation in combating crime, locating fugitives, and suppressing any attempts by suspects to evade legal accountability.
