President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on October 20 focused on accelerating intensive fisheries projects and establishing energy-efficient lemon greenhouses across the country. According to the press service of the head of state, these initiatives are designed to boost regional economic activity and expand employment opportunities for local populations.
The country has set an ambitious target to expand intensive aquaculture and achieve a production volume of 1 million tons of fish annually. During the presentation, plans to reach this goal were examined using the example of the Balykchi district. Specifically, integrated intensive fishing complexes are planned around 24 meliorative vertical wells, covering the entire production cycle from fingerling and feed supply to cultivation, processing, storage, and sales.
Each project, spanning 50 sotiks of land, is projected to yield at least 30 tons of trout annually while creating 10 jobs per site. To manage these projects under a unified framework, the establishment of a specialized fisheries holding company has been proposed. In order to replicate the Balykchi experience nationwide, authorities have been instructed to conduct an inventory of over 4,000 meliorative vertical wells across the republic by March 1, 2027.
The second part of the presentation addressed the development of lemon cultivation in the Balykchi district. Plans include constructing energy-efficient greenhouses on a 100-hectare area surrounding nine local mahallas, which will then be provided to entrepreneurs in a turnkey condition. Cultivation, sorting, processing, packaging, storage, and distribution processes will be integrated into a single cooperative supply chain.
