The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Brunei, operating with his residence in Kuala Lumpur, Karomiddin Gadoev, has officially presented his credentials to the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, according to reports from the «Dunyo» news agency. The diplomatic ceremony marked another step in formalizing bilateral engagement between the two nations.
During the subsequent high-level discussion, the parties thoroughly reviewed potential avenues for advancing bilateral relations across multiple sectors. A mutual agreement was reportedly reached to foster closer cooperation in trade, economic domains, cultural exchange, education, and the tourism industry, aiming to bridge ties despite geographic differences.
It is worth noting that Karomiddin Gadoev has been serving as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Malaysia since November 2023, concurrently handling diplomatic duties and representation for Brunei from the Malaysian capital, a standard practice for regional diplomatic coverage.
For context, Brunei Darussalam is a compact nation situated in Southeast Asia along the northern coast of Borneo, sharing land borders with Malaysia. Operating as an absolute monarchy under a sultanate system, the country holds a population of roughly 466,000 people according to UN estimates, having gained its formal independence from the British in 1984.
