Erkinjon Turdimov, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education and Science, has made a controversial statement regarding the state of the country's educational system. He claimed that the authorities have allegedly created all the necessary conditions for learning, and any further outcomes depend solely on compliance with regulations and parental involvement. While discussing the need to elevate the status of teachers, he urged adults to stop criticizing educators and instead engage with their children daily, conveniently omitting pressing issues such as teacher salaries and poor working conditions.

"Today everything has been created by the state. What is missing for your education, for your children?" Turdimov purportedly stated, deflecting institutional shortcomings onto the public. According to his assertions, parents tend to limit themselves to complaining about schools rather than actively participating in the educational process. He questioned whether adults dedicate at least an hour daily to studying with their children, concluding that the majority allegedly fail to do so.

Turdimov tied the enhancement of teachers' social standing to a shift in parents' attitudes toward schools, framing education as a collective societal duty where everyone must fulfill their obligations. Furthermore, the official spoke out against adopting new legislation to address ongoing problems in the sector. In his view, the necessary norms already exist, and the authorities should merely enforce existing rules rather than drafting new ones.

These contentious remarks come against the backdrop of widespread public grievances from parents in Tashkent and other regions. Citizens have repeatedly reported severe shortages of textbooks, particularly in Russian-language classes. Despite these infrastructural failures, the authorities continue to emphasize stricter compliance and parental accountability while leaving systemic material challenges unaddressed.
