Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan have reportedly uncovered new instances of corruption and abuse of office, highlighting ongoing systemic challenges within various administrative sectors. According to the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office, three individuals have been apprehended in Tashkent and Namangan on suspicion of fraud and extortion.

The first incident allegedly took place in the capital, where officers from the Mirabad District Department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, conducted a targeted sting operation. Investigators claim that a local resident supposedly promised to secure a job for an applicant's relative within the internal affairs organs, demanding a payment of 4,000 US dollars for his alleged influence. The suspect was reportedly caught red-handed while receiving 2,000 dollars, which constituted half of the demanded amount.

A separate, equally concerning incident unfolded in the Namangan region, involving local energy sector officials. Official reports indicate that the head and a master technician of the Yanginamangan District branch of the 'Energosbyt' enterprise under the 'Regional Electric Networks' joint-stock company confronted the owner of a commercial building in the 'Guzal' neighborhood, alleging that the utility meter installed on the premises was purportedly faulty.

According to the preliminary investigation, the officials threatened the property owner with an official violation report and a heavy fine amounting to 300 million soms. They allegedly offered to overlook the fabricated infraction in exchange for a bribe of 4,000 dollars. The suspects were apprehended while supposedly accepting 2,500 dollars from the building owner. Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding both cases, and further investigative actions are currently underway.
