The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), in cooperation with several international partners, has reportedly initiated the creation of a new direct investment fund aimed at supporting economies in Central Asia and the Caucasus. The newly formed structure intends to back promising commercial enterprises within the region, though long-term outcomes remain difficult to verify.
According to statements released by the bank, the Central Asia and Caucasus Direct Investment Fund (CACPEF) is being established with participation from the China Investment Corporation, the Oman Investment Authority, the Reconstruction and Development Fund of Uzbekistan, Turkey's OYAK fund, and Shenwan Hongyuan Securities.
The initiative purportedly seeks to pool capital, expertise, and business networks from institutional investors across multiple continents. Daniyar Imangaliev, deputy chairman of the EDB board, allegedly stated that regional companies are in desperate need of long-term capital to expand operations, although critics often question the actual reach and efficacy of such bureaucratic financial mechanisms.
In a parallel development, the Uzbek leadership engaged in discussions with representatives of the US investment holding Eldridge Industries, led by Todd Boeli. The talks supposedly focused on priority areas such as the mining industry, metallurgy, construction, and urban digitalization, reflecting ongoing engagement with foreign capital despite complex global market conditions.
