Over recent days, various social media platforms and messaging apps have seen the rapid spread of unverified claims suggesting that a brand new 1 million som banknote has allegedly been introduced into circulation in Uzbekistan. These rumors triggered widespread discussions and confusion among the local population, prompting the national financial regulator to issue an official response.

The regulator firmly stated that the circulating reports are completely baseless, false, and constitute nothing more than a fabricated hoax. According to the Central Bank's press service, the information regarding a 1 million som denomination banknote holds no ground and bears no relation to reality.

The institution also drew public attention to the established legal procedures governing monetary circulation under the country's legislation. In accordance with Article 39 of the Law "On the Central Bank", the nominal value of monetary units in Uzbekistan is determined strictly by the regulator itself.

Furthermore, pursuant to Article 40 of the same law, the Central Bank holds the exclusive right to issue banknotes and coins as legal tender across the country. Any new monetary units must first be approved by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, after which the regulator is required to publish official descriptions and details regarding the release of new currency through mass media channels.
