Air Quality (AQI)

The National Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection has issued a warning regarding a potential temporary deterioration of atmospheric air quality in Tashkent during the night of October 24. Authorities are closely monitoring the unfolding environmental situation across the capital.

According to official forecasts, evening and nighttime hours will likely see a marked increase in the concentration of fine particulate matter, specifically PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants. Consequently, the international Air Quality Index (AQI) could reach unfavorable thresholds. Meanwhile, the domestic national air quality index is expected to remain predominantly within the yellow category.

Officials attribute the accumulation of airborne pollutants to a combination of meteorological factors, including nighttime temperature drops, weak wind currents, and a strong temperature inversion. Under such restrictive weather conditions, vertical air mixing in the lower atmospheric layers is severely impeded, trapping particulate matter directly at the ground level.

Environmental experts anticipate that air quality will begin to gradually improve with the arrival of dawn as the temperature inversion weakens. Nevertheless, morning hours may still witness readings remaining at levels "unhealthy for sensitive groups" in certain districts of the city. A dedicated commission continues to exercise round-the-clock monitoring of the capital's atmospheric conditions.
