Authorities in Uzbekistan continue their crackdown on the illegal pharmaceutical trade, following the recent discovery of a clandestine storage facility in the Namangan region. Law enforcement reportedly uncovered nearly 68,000 units of foreign-manufactured medical drugs stored in a hidden cellar, with an estimated total market value of 5.6 billion soms.

According to information provided by the State Security Service, the operation was carried out jointly by regional security officers, the customs administration, and internal affairs bodies. The illegal storage operation was allegedly set up by two local brothers, aged 43 and 40, who reportedly worked as an executive and an employee of a private pharmaceutical sales enterprise.

During the inspection of the non-residential basement, officers seized 67,923 medication units spanning 412 different titles, which were allegedly intended for subsequent illegal commercial distribution. Authorities stated that judicial chemical and commodity expert analyses have been appointed as part of the ongoing pre-investigation verification process.

This enforcement action highlights persistent regulatory challenges within the regional medical supply chain. Previously, local authorities purportedly uncovered five similar clandestine depots in the Namangan region storing uncertified and illegally imported medicines valued at approximately 5.2 billion soms, pointing to broader issues of oversight in the sector.
