In Uzbekistan, an official from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation has been detained for attempting to receive a bribe of $100,000. According to investigative authorities, he demanded the money in exchange for facilitating the issuance of a license to open a branch of a non-state higher education institution. The official was caught red-handed while receiving the specified amount.
As reported by the Telegram channel XAVFSIZLIK, a leading specialist in the department for licensing educational organizations within the ministry solicited the funds from a representative of a university. He allegedly promised a favorable decision on granting a license for a branch of a prestigious non-state university operating in the city of Karshi in return for the payment.
During operational measures conducted by officers of the Kashkadarya Regional Department of the State Security Service in Tashkent, the official was apprehended while taking the demanded sum. A criminal case has been initiated under Article 168, Part 4, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code (fraud) in connection with this incident.
A preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied against the suspect. Investigative actions are currently ongoing. The State Security Service has also urged citizens to report similar violations via the short number 1520, emphasizing that the confidentiality of appeals is guaranteed.
