Uzbekistan's canoe slalom team delivered a strong performance at the Asian Junior (U18) and Under-23 (U23) Championships and the ICF World Ranking international tournament, held from March 2 to 8 in Thailand. The country's athletes secured a total of 5 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
The primary successes came in the kayak-cross discipline. Samandar Saydullaev won two silver medals and a gold in the U23 category. Among juniors, 16-year-old Ibrahim Nosirjonov clinched the gold medal in the C1M (U18) event.
At the Asian Championships, gold medals were awarded to Samandar Saydullaev (K1M, U23) and the team of Sherzod Qurbonaliyev, Ibrahim Nosirjonov, and Asilbek Ernazarov (C1 team, U23). In the short slalom discipline, Ibrahim Nosirjonov secured another gold medal.
Silver medals at the Asian Championships were won by Asilbek Ernazarov (C1M, U18) and the team of Samandar Saydullaev, Mustafo Matiboyev, and Doniyor Islomov (K1 team, U23). Bronze awards went to Sherzod Qurbonaliyev and Mustafo Matiboyev.
The head coach of the national team, Rustam Ruziyev, noted that preparation for the competitions was conducted during training camps in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates, from January to February.
Canoe slalom is an Olympic sport, and its development in Uzbekistan is supported by the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee.
