In the Samarkand and Surkhandarya regions of Uzbekistan, state officials have been detained for accepting bribes in exchange for processing documents and restoring property rights. These incidents highlight the ongoing anti-corruption efforts in the country and the active measures taken by law enforcement agencies.
In the Pastdargom district of Samarkand region, a cadastral branch engineer attempted to receive $2,500 through intermediaries for issuing a state cadastral passport for a 2-hundred-square-meter land plot. This case underscores the corruption risks associated with official land resource procedures.
In Surkhandarya region, a former chief inspector of the Sherabad district tax inspectorate received 10 million soums for assisting in the restoration of property rights to a horticultural farm. The money was intended in connection with a case being heard in the regional Economic Court. This incident points to interference in judicial processes and the spread of corruption across various sectors.
Criminal cases have been initiated under Article 168 ("Fraud") for both incidents. The cadastral engineer additionally faces charges under Article 211 ("Bribery"). The suspects have been placed in custody as a preventive measure, and investigative actions are ongoing. This confirms the stringent measures being implemented in Uzbekistan to combat corruption.
