The government of Uzbekistan has announced a tender for the construction of a new international airport in Bukhara under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The new airport complex is planned to be built in the Kumsulton area of Bukhara District and is expected to become a key transport hub serving both domestic and international flights.
According to the press service of Uzbekistan Airports, the private partner will be responsible for the construction and subsequent operation of the passenger terminal, while the airfield infrastructure will remain under state management. The project includes the construction of a passenger terminal covering 48,500 square meters with a capacity of 1,200 passengers per hour for international flights and 400 passengers per hour for domestic flights.
The plans also involve building a catering facility, parking and cargo areas, and a fuel storage complex with a capacity of 8,000 cubic meters. The existing Bukhara International Airport handled 574,036 passengers in 2025, with international flights constituting the majority of the passenger traffic.
Companies with experience in implementing similar infrastructure projects are invited to participate in the tender. The construction of the new airport aims to enhance regional connectivity, boost tourism, and support economic development, though such large-scale projects often face challenges related to timelines, funding, and execution.
