Concrete pouring work has officially commenced at the construction site of Uzbekistan's first nuclear power plant (NPP) in the Jizzakh region. This event marks the project's transition into an active implementation phase. The work is based on key documents on long-term cooperation and project development signed by the agency "Uzatom" and the state corporation "Rosatom" on March 24, 2026.
In the initial stage, foundation preparation is underway for a low-power reactor unit using RITM-200N technology. The NPP project envisions the creation of a combined-type station, including two power units with VVER-1000 reactors and two power units with RITM-200N reactors.
It is expected that after commissioning, the station will be able to meet over 15% of Uzbekistan's electricity needs. The implementation of the project is viewed as one of the largest energy projects in the history of independent Uzbekistan and a significant step towards strengthening the country's energy independence.
