Russia has continued heavy attacks on Ukraine over the past 24 hours, with several strikes occurring overnight on Thursday and early Friday. At least one person has been killed and several injured, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 210 strike drones were launched overnight, about 140 of which were “Shahed” Iranian drones used by Russian forces. In a Telegram message, he emphasized the need for increased pressure on Russia, including continued sanctions and synchronization with partners.
“Russia continues to attack our energy sector, critical infrastructure, and civilian facilities. Such daily strikes show that more pressure is needed on Russia. We need to weaken the aggressor so that Europe has more security,” Zelenskyy wrote.
In the Kharkiv region, railway infrastructure was hit, including traction substations, causing damage and fires. Thousands of families were left without electricity. Similar attacks targeted the Sumy and Zaporizhzhia regions.
A Russian drone attack damaged port infrastructure in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, wounding at least two people in the Black Sea port city of Odesa. Two high-rise residential buildings were damaged, with apartments destroyed and fires breaking out, according to Governor Oleh Kiper.
The Russian army also attacked the shipbuilding town of Mykolaiv with drones, causing damage in the private sector and sparking a fire. Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych warned residents to remain sheltered.
In response, Ukraine launched its fourth drone attack in the past week on Russia’s Black Sea port of Tuapse, targeting energy infrastructure to disrupt oil revenues. A fire broke out at the seaport terminal, as reported by Russian authorities.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces attacked three districts “almost 20 times” with drones and artillery, damaging infrastructure in Kryvyi Rih and injuring one person. The Nikopol district saw damage to private homes, a gas station, and buses.
In the Kherson region, continued drone attacks over 24 hours resulted in one death and eight injuries. Private houses, administrative buildings, warehouses, and civilian vehicles were damaged, according to Ukrainian officials.
