United States President Donald Trump has stated he is reviewing Iran’s 14-point proposal to end the war, while warning that Washington could restart airstrikes if Tehran “misbehaves”. Speaking to reporters in Florida, Trump confirmed he had been briefed on the “concept of the deal”.

Despite the diplomatic opening, Trump struck a blunt tone, claiming the US was “doing very well” and that Iran was desperate for a settlement because the country had been “decimated” by months of conflict and a naval blockade. In a post on Truth Social, he said it was difficult to imagine the Iranian proposal being acceptable, as Tehran had “not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years.”

Tehran’s 14-point plan reportedly calls for the lifting of the US naval blockade, war reparations, and the release of all frozen assets. It also seeks a 30-day window to finalize peace terms, a timeline at odds with Washington’s preference for a longer transition.

The diplomatic push comes amid a fragile three-week truce that paused the US-Israel war on Iran, which began in late February. Despite the ceasefire, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it remains on “full standby” for a return to hostilities, citing the US’s lack of commitment to previous treaties.

Tensions have been further stoked by Trump’s recent characterization of the US naval blockade as a “very profitable business”. Tehran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs seized on the remarks, labeling them a “damning admission of piracy”.

The impasse is further complicated by technical obstacles to reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including the presence of Iranian sea mines, and a growing rift with NATO allies following Trump’s decision to withdraw 5,000 US troops from Germany.
