According to Podrobno.uz, dozens of Nigerian fishermen may have been killed in air strikes by the Chadian Air Force in the Lake Chad region.

Abubakar Gamanadi Usman, chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Fishing Association, reported that more than 40 members of the union are missing. The bodies of the victims have not yet been found, but it is believed that some died directly from the shelling, while others drowned trying to escape on overloaded boats.

The Chadian military operation was a response to attacks by Boko Haram militants, which killed at least 24 soldiers and two generals last week. The press service of the Chadian president confirmed intensive air raids on terrorist strongholds. However, the problem is that the militants are based on islands also inhabited by civilian fishermen. Search efforts are complicated by the lake's depth and the fact that Boko Haram controls a significant portion of the region's watercraft.

The tragic events in Nigeria were not limited to the combat zone on the lake. In Zamfara State in the northwest of the country, armed militants killed at least 30 people in an ambush on a highway. The attack occurred late at night on May 10. A group of armed individuals, referred to by locals as bandits, attacked people traveling on the road. Among the dead were civilians, hunters, and a public safety officer.
