Turkey's Foreign Ministry announced on May 11 that Ankara and Yerevan have finalized bureaucratic preparations to establish direct trade links between the two countries.
Under the new decision, goods shipped from Turkey to Armenia via third countries, or vice versa, can now indicate their final destination or country of origin as "Armenia/Turkey."
Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan said Yerevan welcomes the lifting of the trade ban by Turkey. She emphasized that the decision is important for expanding trade and economic ties, promoting economic interdependence in the region, and ensuring peace and prosperity.
Badalyan added that this is a significant step toward developing full and normal relations between the two countries, which could logically continue with the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border and the establishment of diplomatic relations.
It is worth recalling that Turkey and Armenia have no diplomatic relations. Due to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the land border between the two countries has been closed since 1993. Since 2022, the sides have been holding negotiations on normalizing relations.
