US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior member of the Islamic State (ISIS), was killed in a joint operation between US and Nigerian forces in Nigeria.
Trump claimed al-Minuki was the second-in-command of ISIS globally.
'He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans,' Trump said.
The US president asserted that al-Minuki's removal 'greatly diminished' ISIS's global operations.
Trump expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for its partnership in the mission.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
