At the Super Chess Classic Romania tournament in Bucharest, one of the rarest episodes in modern chess practice occurred. The match between French grandmaster Alireza Firouzja and Uzbekistani player Javokhir Sindarov took place under highly unusual conditions for a top-level competition.

Due to a leg injury, Firouzja could not enter the playing hall and received permission from the organizers to continue playing from his hotel room. As a result, the game was held in a format that seems almost unbelievable for a professional tournament: Sindarov sat at the board, while his opponent played lying in bed.

According to organizers, the French chess player's injury was serious, and doctors recommended strict bed rest. After missing the previous round, he studied the tournament regulations and took advantage of the option to play remotely with his opponent's consent. Sindarov did not object and personally went to the opponent's room for the game.

Despite the difficult circumstances and unfamiliar setting, the game was tense. It ended in a draw. This match has already entered the list of the most unusual episodes in chess history.

A similar incident occurred in 1985 in Tilburg, when English grandmaster Anthony Miles, due to back pain, played lying on a massage table right in the playing hall.

Notably, Sindarov is gradually closing the gap with Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the FIDE Circuit ranking. His results in recent tournaments have significantly strengthened his position, and he is now close to the leader.
