Jonathan Andic, the son of the late founder of the popular Spanish fashion brand Mango, was arrested on Tuesday as part of the investigation into the death of his father, Isak Andic. Isak Andic, 71, died in December 2024 after falling into a ravine while hiking with his son near Barcelona.
Catalan police Mossos d'Esquadra confirmed the arrest of Jonathan Andic, who serves as deputy chairman of the board at Mango. A spokesperson for the High Court of Barcelona stated that the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Initially, police treated the incident as an accident and closed the case in early 2025, but the investigation was reopened in March. According to the Associated Press, Jonathan Andic is considered the sole witness to the incident.
A representative of the Andic family told Reuters that the family believes in Jonathan's innocence and that he is fully cooperating with the investigation. CNN could not independently verify this claim.
On Tuesday, Jonathan Andic appeared in court in Martorell, near Barcelona. The judge set bail at €1 million (approximately $1.16 million), which has already been posted, according to the court. The court also ordered the confiscation of his passport and required him to report to court weekly.
Isak Andic, a Turkish-born entrepreneur, founded Mango in 1984 and built it into one of Spain's largest fashion corporations, alongside Inditex, owner of Zara. Last year, Mango reported revenue of €3.8 billion ($4.4 billion), showing double-digit growth. Forbes estimated Isak Andic's net worth at around $4.5 billion at the time of his death.
According to CNN, the Andic family controls 95% of Mango: Jonathan Andic and his two sisters hold the majority stake, while the remaining 5% belongs to CEO Toni Ruiz, who became chairman in 2025 after Isak Andic's death.
