At least five people have been killed in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, Lebanese state media reported, hours after US President Donald Trump announced an agreement to de-escalate fighting that neither Israel nor the Lebanese group Hezbollah has publicly accepted.

The official National News Agency (NNA) said on Tuesday that two Syrians were killed in an Israeli attack on a plant nursery in Jebchit. Separate drone strikes killed two people in Toul and Ansar, and another driver in Nabatieh.

Trump claimed he held phone calls with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah leaders, and that both sides agreed to stop attacks. The office of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said under the deal, Hezbollah would cease fire into Israel while Israel would stop striking Beirut's southern suburbs.

However, the Israeli military said it intercepted two projectiles from Lebanon hours after Trump's announcement. Hezbollah did not claim responsibility for any cross-border attacks since the announcement. Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr noted the fragility of the deal, as Hezbollah continues to attack Israeli troops in southern Lebanon.

Israeli troops seized the 900-year-old Beaufort Castle on Saturday. Netanyahu warned Trump that if Hezbollah does not stop attacks, Israel will strike targets in Beirut. Trump posted on Truth Social that he hopes Israel and Hezbollah will stop fighting "for ETERNITY!"

According to Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health, Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed at least 3,433 people in Lebanon. Israel's military reported 27 soldiers killed since early March.
