FBI agents shot and killed a man who allegedly held hostages in a building in Bakersfield, California, ending a 12-hour standoff. The incident occurred at a location housing a bank branch and a school district office.

Police were initially called to the scene due to a bomb threat. The suspect barricaded himself inside with several people, two of whom were released after negotiations with authorities.

The Bakersfield Police Department confirmed that the suspect died in an officer-involved shooting involving FBI personnel. All hostages were found unharmed and received medical evaluation at the scene.

Sergeant Eric Celedon stated that the department had deployed “every single resource at our disposal” to ensure a safe resolution. A wide perimeter was established, evacuating nearby City Hall and police headquarters.

The suspect's identity and motive remain unclear. Police said the investigation is ongoing and significant law enforcement presence will remain in the area.
