A South Korean court on Friday sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to 30 years in prison for sending drones into North Korea, marking the latest legal blow for the impeached leader who was already handed a life sentence earlier this year.

Prosecutors alleged that Yoon's move was a deliberate attempt to stoke tensions with Pyongyang and justify his failed martial law declaration in December 2024.

The Seoul Central District Court found Yoon guilty of abuse of power and aiding the enemy, according to Yonhap news agency. Yoon has denied the charges.

Yoon's short-lived imposition of martial law led to his impeachment and formal removal from office in April 2025.

In February, Yoon was sentenced to life imprisonment for leading an insurrection and undermining the constitution. The judges ruled that his martial law decision was "intended" to paralyze the National Assembly.
