️ Scientists from Nanjing Forestry University and Tsinghua University in China have proposed a two-step process to recycle polystyrene: first, the plastic is heated to 460 degrees Celsius, and then the resulting compounds are treated at 160 degrees Celsius using a ruthenium-based catalyst.
️ According to the authors, the method yields up to 95% liquid hydrocarbons. The researchers also claim that the technology can work not only with one type of plastic but also with mixed waste.
️ The scientists believe this approach could simultaneously help recycle plastic waste and find alternative raw materials for the aviation industry. However, the technology remains a scientific development and requires further testing for industrial application.
️ Previously, scientists studied the potential of a new lake in the Bukhara region and explained its origin.
