Voters in several US states went to the polls on Tuesday for primary elections ahead of November's midterm elections, which are seen by many as a referendum on Donald Trump's second term.
In Georgia, Trump-endorsed candidate Burt Jones lost the gubernatorial runoff to billionaire Rick Jackson. However, the president's picks secured Senate nominations in Alabama, Georgia, and Oklahoma.
Mike Collins, endorsed by Trump just days before the vote, won the Republican Senate runoff in Georgia. He will face Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff in what is expected to be one of the most competitive midterm campaigns in the country.
In Alabama, three-term congressman Barry Moore, backed by Trump, defeated former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson in the Senate primary. Moore is expected to win in November against Democrat Everett Wess.
In Oklahoma, Trump's endorsed candidate for governor, former state Senator Mike Mazzei, advanced to an August 25 runoff. In the Senate race, Kevin Hern, also endorsed by Trump, won with 63.7% of the vote.
In California, Democratic state Senator Aisha Wahab advanced in the special election to replace former Representative Eric Swalwell, who resigned after sexual assault allegations. She will compete in an August 18 runoff.
Trump's endorsement record in gubernatorial primaries remains positive: of 11 candidates he backed, seven advanced to the general election, two moved to runoffs, and two were defeated.
